Delivering User-friendly IoT Technology as a Foundation of Society
IoT (Internet of Things) is a technology for managing and controlling objects and situations in distant locations. These technologies are used for remote and automated operations, for data applications such as simulations and predictions, and for sustainable society technologies such as mobility and transportation services, energy management towards decarbonization, and optimization of supply chains.
By making the IoT technology that supports this conected world user-friendly and accessible, Soracom accelerates innovation around the world. With this objective in mind, the IoT platform SORACOM was born.
SORACOM: Evolving Together with Users
Soracom initially focused on adapting the cellular wireless network used by smartphones to connect IoT devices. Cellular data is a good fit for IoT because it provides each device with a SIM ID for authentication and can be used across national borders.
When Soracom was founded, cellular communication systems were generally managed through large-scale, hardware-based data centers. Soracom instead developed its own reliable, high-performance system in software, deployed on the public cloud. This innovative technical approach has allowed Soracom to offer a platform that can be easily deployed worldwide and flexibly expanded in response to growing demand.
Continuously evolving based on customer feedback, we have implemented over 200 feature additions since Soracom first launched in 2016. The Soracom platform now offers connectivity worldwide along with more than 20 separate services designed to solve common challenges faced when developing IoT systems.
Engagement with IoT, Generative AI, and Advanced Technologies
IoT connectivity technologies continue to advance with the emergence of new capabilities, such as satellite communications to connect almost anywhere on Earth, LTE-M to enable low power consumption, and iSIMs that can integrate the functionality of a SIM into a SoC.
Generative AI and LLM (Large Language Models) tools now make it possible for almost anyone to achieve the level of data analysis and prediction accuracy previously reserved for highly specialized professionals in the IoT field. Furthermore, there is growing excitement about the potential for big data capabilities to draw connections and build new efficiencies across different industries.
